At its 3rd plenary meeting, on 12 February 1993, the Economic and Social Council decided:
- To conduct, with the assistance of the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations, a general review of current arrangements for consultation with non-governmental organizations, as determined by the Council in its resolution 1296 (XLIV) of 23 May 1968, with a view to updating them, if necessary, in particular in the light of recent experience, including that gained during the process of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, and to complete that review by 1995;
- That the work of the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations would be open to any interested State Member of the United Nations, in accordance with established practice;
- To request the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations to consider the modalities for the review and to submit its proposals to the Council at its substantive session of 1993.
